The Glasgow Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1783, making it the oldest Chamber in the English-speaking world. It is an independent membership organisation, which promotes commerce in Glasgow and beyond.

The early priorities of the Chamber were to increase the quality of goods being produced in the city in an attempt to lobby the Government to get rid of smuggling, lower tariffs, and reduce taxes. Since then, it has worked hard to help the economy and businesses throughout Glasgow.

LinkedIn Training: Scottish Events Show, Glasgow

On the 22nd March I was delighted to be asked to present a session and offer some LinkedIn training in at The Scottish Events Show at the SEC in Glasgow, organised by EventIt. The event is an annual hospitality and tourism event  involving 1500 industry professionals and showcasing over 120 exhibitors and suppliers. This is a big day for the people involved.

What did it involve?

I gave a 45 minute talk in the connectivity area about how to make the most of your LinkedIn profile, a key marketing tool that is often neglected. Many of us spend our days selling products and services and improving our clients’ branding but we struggle to successfully sell ourselves or invest in our own personal brand. You could be missing out on big opportunities as a result. There are some quick tweaks you can use to improve your profile and some methods that are a little more time consuming but ultimately very worth investing in.

Why it matters

Creating a great LinkedIn profile is about making the best of your picture and headline to make it eye catching and interesting. You need to use the key search terms but also provide substance to show that your claims are true. I explained the importance of building up your network, getting yourself endorsed and endorsing others. We looked at how important it is to comment on people’s posts and join in the conversations to get yourself known and widen your networks.

Edinburgh LinkedIn Profile Workshop a Great Success

On 22nd November 2016, 70 delegates came along to a free workshop at The Dome in Edinburgh. LinkedIn expert Miles Duncan guided the packed audience through the myths and misconceptions about LinkedIn profiles: it is not a social network like Facebook!

More than 50 people attended the LinkedIn Myths and Misconceptions Busting session, run by LinkedIn expert Donald Munro on 15th September 2016 at Collobor8te, Glasgow. This was Collabor8te’s first event in their new downstairs space and was attended by a mix of freelancers, SMEs and corporates.

Teresa Jackson from Collabor8te said “We were delighted to host the LinkedIn Success Systems seminar. Everyone enjoyed the night, they told me they learnt lots and got masses of content to take away with them.”

Highlighting the effectiveness of having the right profile aligned with your target audience, Miles Duncan was called to a LinkedIn training session in Paris on that day. In his stead, Donald Munro ran the event and reiterated the power of LinkedIn as a powerful tool for business development with Miles’ experience at the fore.

On 13th September 2016, attendees at The Dome in Edinburgh learned how to effectively promote their skills, products and services with expertise and insight from LinkedIn expert Miles Duncan.

The event was well-attended, with over 50 people from a range of organisations including freelancers, SMEs and corporate enterprises. There was a real buzz and excitement among the attendees who wanted to leverage LinkedIn as a business development tool and now understand that LinkedIn is the most under-utilised tool in the B2B sector.

Miles outlined how a LinkedIn profile is aligned with the target audience. In other words, the profile should be communicating that you—the individual or company—are the solution to your target audience’s problem. The biggest mistake people make when developing their LinkedIn profile is treating it like a CV or simply listing their job description.

The event was really enjoyable and the attendees (as well as Miles) learned a great deal. Those who want to give their LinkedIn profiles a boost can use the Profile Health Check tool to help identify weak areas in LinkedIn profiles, receiving suggestions of some quick fixes that can lead to immediate gains in business development.

LinkedIn expert Miles Duncan was invited to run a mini workshop at the Grangemouth Networking Club on 7th October 2016. Hosting the event was Roger Lewis, Sales Director at Lion Safety, and the event was attended by sales and business development people from over 25 different companies.

This event started at 5:30am, meaning a very early start for Miles at 3:30am. For some professionals, this is a normal working day and many of the attendees were back at their own businesses by 7am; proof that the early bird gets the worm. Glasgow training delegates learn how to get more out of LinkedIn

Business professionals were shown how to use LinkedIn to effectively promote their skills, people, products and services at the event run by LinkedIn Success Blueprint in Glasgow on Wednesday.

Donald Munro explained how organisations of all sizes could benefit from learning how to integrate LinkedIn into their business development at the event which was held with Clydesdale Bank.

One of the delegates said that the seminar had completely changed her view of the platform and that she now understood that it was vital that her firm embraces LinkedIn.

She said: “Donald showed that people are currently looking at my profile and making a judgement about me and my business. I was shocked to learn that my profile is ranking higher in Google searches than our company website. I hadn’t taken the time to work on my profile and didn’t realise that this might be the first impression people experience of my business.”

She continued: “I learned that I have to create a profile that builds trust and credibility and that my current profile is probably damaging to my personal brand and to the reputation of my business.”

LinkedIn training for SMES at West Lothian Chamber of Commerce

Members of the West Lothian Chamber of Commerce learned how they could use LinkedIn to grow their businesses at a special event held with LinkedIn Success Blueprint’s Miles Duncan.

Miles shared insights from his acclaimed training program and gave some examples of how SMEs are using LinkedIn to generate more clients, referrals and cultivate ‘go to’ expert status.

He told delegates that they could use the platform to promote their skills, people, products and services – but that the key to success is in building a value and trust economy.

LinkedIn training event with CIPR in Dundee

PR and Business professionals in Dundee will be able to learn how to use LinkedIn to promote their personal brand, make new connections or win new business.

LinkedIn Success Blueprint’s Miles Duncan will be heading to the City of Discovery for the CIPR Social in the City Event on Thursday 28th April.

Miles will show delegates at the Apex City Quay how to use the platform for business development and recruitment tool.

LinkedIn training seminar in Dundee: LinkedIn connections – quality or quantity?

Dundee and Angus-based business professionals were given some insights from the LinkedIn Success Blueprint by Miles Duncan and Dave Rattray at an event held in Dundee last night.

Delegates asked the LinkedIn training and strategy experts about their blueprint for achieving consistent success in using the platform to generate new clients, referrals and ‘go to’ expert status.

One delegate asked one of the common questions regarding connection etiquette – “Should I accept connections from people I don’t know?”
Miles replied: “With respect to connections, we believe that it is both quantity AND quality that you are after.

“Having large numbers of connections is important for generating traction and extending the reach of your influence on the platform but you also need to have a focussed group of connections that you can utilise to help you to develop your networks.”

Miles explained that he generally does accept connections from strangers and he went on to say how and why he does this.

He continued: “I have a look to see if their profile looks genuine and then I’ll accept the connection but then I will message them to start the relationship, perhaps enquiring ‘what was it that led you to want to reach out to me? etc’.”

He added: “In this way there is a chance of starting a thread of communication and nurturing the relationship.”

LinkedIn training seminar in Aberdeen at Waterloo Quay

LinkedIn Success Blueprint extends its thanks to the organisers and delegates who contributed to the success of last night’s training seminar in Aberdeen.

Miles Duncan presented to an enthusiastic audience attending the LinkedIn training event at Waterloo Quay on Tuesday 15th September.

The Aberdeen-based business professionals were given some insights on how to use LinkedIn to get more clients, referrals and ‘go to’ expert status at the special seminar.

Business owners gave an enthusiastic response to a special seminar on how to use LinkedIn to get more clients, referrals and ‘go to’ expert status.

LinkedIn expert Miles Duncan joined SharkDog’s Josh Quigley to give presentations at the ActionCOACH Maximising Social Media event in Edinburgh last night.

Miles gave a presentation from his acclaimed LinkedIn Success Blueprint at the special event held at the Novotel Hotel, Hermiston Gait, on Wednesday.

Josh and Alan Smith of Action COACH shared their insights on the use of other social media channels, such as twitter and Facebook.

One delegate said : “Miles has opened my eyes to the opportunities of really using LinkedIn to help me grow my business.”

Another added: “I learned that having a great profile is just the tip of the iceberg and that I need to use content to help to build trust and credibility.”

Miles Duncan has extended his thanks to the organisers and delegates who contributed to the success of his LinkedIn training event in Glasgow this week.
An enthusiastic audience at Thrive for Business event, held at RBS Kirkstane House, heard Miles explain how LinkedIn can be used to help win more clients, referrals and ‘go to’ expert status.

Many of the delegates said that they were unaware that LinkedIn has over 18million users in the UK alone and that it has powerful tools that can be utilised to promote your skills, people, products and services.

One said: “I have a profile on LinkedIn but I don’t really now how to use it. Miles showed me that I need to craft my profile to help me attract my target audience and he also showed 5 key areas where I need to add my keywords in order to win good Google rankings.”

Another explained: “Miles has really opened up my eyes to the immense possibilities that LinkedIn has to offer for our business. We should all be using it to help promote our brand values and to maintain relationships with our customers and stakeholders.”
